Laptop Distress

October 17, 2008

I have just figured out something that’s vital to my survival: I’ll die without my laptop.

It has everything I’ve ever made and needed, everything I’ll ever need and care for. It has my original writings, copies of my articles published, my current resume and even the “emo-ssential” photographs of past and present loves. It has been my personal assistant, my technological conscience and my portal to timely knowledge. If it was a girl, I’d marry it in a heart beat.

Unfortunately, it’s not and the fact that even humans break down every once in a while makes all the whining I can muster seem so incorrigible. It’s just sad that my laptop seems to always find time to take is vacation when I need it the most. I’m not sure if that’s the whole idea behind it but pissing people off is never justified, unless of course you’re doing it for fun.

My laptop might just be spiting me, corrupting its own system file in the process (what a risk taker), since I’ve been saying time and time again that I will might will replace it when I’ve saved enough for its replacement. Sony Vaio or Apple iBook? Only time will tell.

It’s not because I find my Neo Laptop obsolete that I’m willing to replace it when the time comes. It’s just that it was a gift given to me by my parents since owning a laptop for college is a prerequisite for my age group. In the name of independence, I yearn to buy my own using my hard earned cash.

For what it’s worth, my Neo laptop has been gravely important, or helpful, with all my undertakings. I got my job through it, met the most awesome people around with it and virtually grew up in it.

From the lactose-intolerant Tsinoys (inside joke) to the super amazing cosplayers (*coughMicaAnunciacioncough*); from the unbelievably artistic deviants (TP hobos) to the masters of the gaming scene (GM Tristan = Godlike); everyone who’s been registered as my online friend would remain strangers without my trusty Neo and, by technicality, my ever dependable SmartBRO connection.

Hopefully, it gets out of the shop as soon as it is unscathed.
